Ocala Mayor proclaims April 2nd Autism Awareness Day, urges employees and families to wear blue.

Special thank you to Mayor Kent Guinn for answering our call to action and PROCLAIMING April 2nd AUTISM AWARENESS DAY in our great city of Ocala. As a SUPER Thank you, our lil heros who are diagnosed with Autism strapped on their capes and presented the Mayor with the BAT PHONE!
WHEREAS, autism is a pervasive developmental disorder affecting the social, communication and behavioral skills of those affected by it, and,
WHEREAS, more health professionals become proficient in diagnosing autism, more children are being diagnosed on the autism spectrum, resulting in rates as high as 1 in 68 children nationally and,
WHEREAS, while there is no cure for autism, it is well-documented that if individuals with autism receive treatment early in their lives, it often is possible for those individuals to lead significantly improved lives, and,
WHEREAS, individuals with autism often require a lifetime of specialized and community support services to ensure their health and safety and to support families’ resilience as they manage the psychological and financial challenges autism presents,
WHEREAS, KidGenius, is spearheading an awareness campaign in order to educate parents, professionals and the general public about autism and its effects in an effort to attract and promote the much needed services our city needs,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Mayor Kent Guinn do hereby proclaim April 2nd as AUTISM AWARENESS DAY in Ocala, and urge all employees and residents to join the nation in solidarity and Shine a light on Autism by wearing blue on this day, in an effort to show support, encourage acceptance and bring awareness to a “Different-ability” that has increased by 30% since 2012. It takes a village and together we can help build it. Its pure Genius.
