Martial arts can help ease the symptoms of ADHD; impulsiveness, inability to concentrate and, in some cases, hyperactivity. A research project conducted by the University of Wisconsin found that in the process of learning martial arts, children became more socially assertive and cooperative. In addition, the study found that the children demonstrated better balance and coordination; eye contact improved; and better play skills developed. Children who practice martial arts generally have strong social skills, fight less often, and perform well in school. And this effect is particularly pronounced in at-risk children or those with special needs.
